  RULES

General:

 - All entrants who wish to compete must send their productions
   before the deadline: 29/Jan/1997

 - Anyone can vote in as many categories as he or she wishes, as long
as the voter sends the PC96 Application Form. We will publish
further informations about how to vote later.

 - The productions must be sent compressed (PKZIP or ARJ), and they
may have informations about the author(s) on separate files or
written in the production's sampletexts or credits. Optionally
you can include text files such as FILE_ID.DIZ, .MDZ descriptions
for Cubic Player and groups infofiles. Executable files (except
for the Demos category) or commercial advertisements will not be
   allowed.

 - The entrants can compete in as many categories as they wish, but
with just 1 (one) production for each one. When there are
subdivisions, as in the music and graphics categories, the entrant
can participate with one production in each subdivision. Example:
a musician may enter 3 songs; one for the multichannel, one for
the chiptune and another for the 999 bytes competition.

 - All PC96 Voting Forms will be available to public

 - The file names cannot have high-ascii on them

 - No production can be ripped from other ones around

 - Exceptionally, the rules can be adapted according to the needs and
circunstances by the organizers. (i.e. although there is no size
limit, no one can complain about their 100Mb demo being
   disqualified.. :)

Demos:

 - No size limit
 - Cannot require more than 600Kb of free conventional memory
 - Graphics must be 100% compatible with VGA standard
 - Productions that are currently just animations or animations with
   player will be automatically desqualified

Tracked Music:

 - Formats alloweds: XM, IT, S3M, MOD, MTM
 - The song must be original, not ripped, no remixes
 - The composer may write whatever he wishes in the sampletexts
 - If the composer wants the song to be played by a specific player/
tracker, he should include informations in the sampletexts or in
some separate text file within the .ZIP package
 - The limitations are:

         Multichannel: 1.048.576 bytes (1Mb) (*)
                       number of channels unlimited

            4 Channel: 1.048.576 bytes (1Mb)
                       4 channels limit

                        New Note Actions (NNAs))

             Chiptune: 20.480 bytes (20Kb)
                       number of channels unlimited

            999 Bytes: 999 bytes (!) :]

(*) The size limit (in bytes) refers to the song uncompressed, and
without the use of TSRs as the "Music Module Compressor" or the
     Impulse Tracker internal compressor

  FAQ

Q: When the results will be published ?
 A: 02/Feb/1997

Q: Is it necessary to participate with productions to vote ?
 A: No

Q: In the voting period, how the songs will be distributed ?
A: We will create a mailing list for the entrants to receive all the
informations (and files) via e-mail. After the publishing of the
final results (via e-mail, message nets and diskmags), every file
    will be sent to ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/demos/

Q: How can I subscribe to this mailing list to receive all informa-
    tion?
A: Everyone who fill up the PC96 Application Form will be automati-
    cally added

Q: Why the voting system is no longer anonymous like it was on PC95?
A: We have chosen to publish the names of who is voting and being
"voted" to make a honest contest, besides last year several songs
became practically anonymous because there were no info texts or
almost no information about them at all

 Q: Aren't there any prizes ?
A: Not for the time being, but if we get any sponsors before the end
of the contest, the entrants will be notified. By the way, PC96
    have no commercial objectives

Q: Is there any brazilian discussion list about PC96 and demo/music
    scene working ?
A: Yep, send message to mlist@nether.net with "subscribe demos" as
subject (all the messages are in portuguese)
