AWESOME SLAM SIBS INFINITE

A little note from the developer

Hi there!

First of all, thank you for giving my little C64 fighting game a try!

Awesome Slam Sibs Infinite is my love letter to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, mixed with a bunch of my favourite characters, games and music from the good old days. The idea is simple: pick a fighter, grab a joystick, find a friend (or fight a CPU opponent), and start punching each other silly. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, quite a lot, actually. Especially when you're trying to make a game like this run on a Commodore 64!

This project started a long time ago, with a technical challenge and a slightly unreasonable desire to prove that the C64 could do some pretty cool things. One thing led to another, and suddenly I was building a full-blown fighting game instead of getting on with whatever I was supposed to be doing.

The project is old enough that it was created entirely by hand, without any AI (except for some bug-hunting at the very end). Every sprite, animation, line of code and little trick had to be made the old-fashioned way. There's a certain charm to that, I think. It's also, in many ways, a ridiculously inefficient way to make a game. :slightly_smiling_face: But that's part of the fun of creating something on this machine.

And what a machine it is! Squeezing all these characters, moves, stages, music and effects into a C64 has been a challenge, to put it mildly. I've had to get creative with memory, sprites and just about everything else. Some things turned out better than I expected; others are reminders that 64 kilobytes really isn't all that much.

I couldn't have done everything alone. A big thank you goes to Jesper Rune Larsen for helping with the menu system and additional code, and to Jarkko Salminen for creating the menu graphics. Thanks also to everyone who contributed pixels, ideas, music and encouragement along the way.

This game is made purely for the love of the machine and the games that inspired it. It's a tribute, not a commercial product, and I hope you'll enjoy discovering all the little references and familiar faces hidden inside it.
So grab a joystick, invite a friend over, pick your favourite fighter and see what happens. Playing against the computer is an option, of course, but I still think the best way to enjoy a fighting game is to sit next to someone and argue about who cheated. That's tradition!

A little note from Trap:

If you enjoy this game and want to help make future development on modern machinery possible, feel free to send a few bucks to PayPal:

By doing that, you help collect money so that Trap can buy a C64Ultimate and help make even more incredible releases in the future.

One last thing:

Thank you for keeping the Commodore 64 alive. Whether you're playing on original hardware, an emulator, or something in between, I hope this game brings you a little joy and reminds you why we're still doing this, all these years later.

Have fun, and may the best 8-bit fighter win!

Cheers,
